#9 – Hamilton (And Its Many Waterfalls)

Surprised to see Hamilton on the list? Hamilton, Ontario has had a reputation for being a not-so-pretty place due to all the large factories. However, as Hamilton has continued to be rejuvenated over the last few years, more and more people and realizing how much green space Hamilton has. Not only that, but did you know that Hamilton is home to over 100 waterfalls? The Instagram picture above was taken at Tiffany Falls, a gorgeous waterfall in Ancaster. If you are looking to go waterfall hunting for your Instagram feed, you won’t find a better Ontario location than Hamilton.

#8 – The Cheltenham Badlands

The Cheltenham Badlands in Caledon, Ontario is a gorgeous land formation made of ‘soft rock.’ According to Ontariotrails.ca:

““Badlands” is a geologic term for an area of soft rock devoid of vegetation and soil cover that has become molded into a rolling landscape of rounded hills and gullies. Such areas are rare in Ontario and this is one of the best examples. They exhibit the reddish hue of the Queenston Shale that forms them; the iron oxide in the shale produces this colour. The narrow greenish bands that can be seen throughout the shale are due to the change of red iron oxide to green iron oxide brought on by the circulating groundwater.”

Unfortunately, after years of misuse and wear-and-tear from visitors, the Badlands can no longer be walked on. However, you can still get a spectacular view of the gorgeous red shale hills from the designated viewing area, which is a great location for getting the best picture! While you’re visiting the Badlands, you can also pop into many of the quaint locations in Cheltenham, such as the popular Spirit Tree Cidery.

One last shot before the canal is full of people

So far, the locations on this last have been perfect for the outdoorsy explorer. However, not everyone likes to tough it out in the woods or go for a hike just to get a great picture. If gorgeous architecture is more your idea of the perfect photo, than you won’t want to miss out on Rideau Canal in Ottawa. This historic structure is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and it becomes a gorgeous skateway in the winter! Not just any skateway; the world’s largest skating rink! If you’re looking for a fun adventure while visiting Ottawa, you may want to plan your trip for the winter months so you can experience this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Collingwood is an ideal location for a family vacation (even four-legged members; the Blue Mountain and Collingwood area has many dog-friendly activities and accommodations). #3 – Bonnechere Caves, Eganville

View this post on Instagram

We've been dying to visit the Bonnechere caves for the last 4 years and finally had the opportunity today! This cool (figuratively and literally- the caves are always around 10 degrees, even on the hottest summer days like today) underground cave system is full of wonder. We learned all about the layers of limestone that make up the tunnels, the fossils that lay perfectly preserved in the cave walls and the bats that call the caves home. This was everything I imagined! About 4.5 hours North-East of Toronto is a hidden gem – the Bonnachere Caves in Eganville, Ontario. Within the caves, you will find gorgeous rock formations and amazing fossils scattered everywhere underground! The caves themselves are an amazing tourist destination, but the surrounding area is also a sight to behold. The waterfalls and forests are perfect for photography – especially in the fall! Keep in mind that the caves are not open all year, so be sure to check the schedule before visiting.

#2 – Niagara Falls

This list of most instagrammable locations in Ontario just wouldn’t be complete with adding Niagara Falls. It may seem like an obvious location, but there is no denying how amazing this wonder is! If you have never visited Niagara Falls, you should definitely add it to your list. One of the best things about visiting the Falls is that it’s a great destination any time of year. If you aren’t into all the tourist shops or attractions, you don’t have to stay right in Niagara Falls. For a quieter vacation away, you may want to stay at Niagara-On-The-Lake (which has many instagrammable historic buildings and quaint shops). It’s about a 30-minute drive from the falls, but keeps you away from the busy feel of one of Ontario’s most popular tourist destinations.

#1 – Blue Mountain Village

Finally, in the #1 spot we have Blue Mountain Village as our most instagrammable location in Ontario! Blue Mountain Village has so much to offer – from it’s proximity to the ski slopes, local shops and restaurants, many spas and hiking trails, to the many events that take place in and around the Village (such as the Blumination Dream Trail seen in the image above!) At Blue Mountain Lodges, we can’t just get enough of the Village – there truly is something for everyone.

Stay at Blue Mountain Lodges any time of the year!

“We had an amazing stay at Blue Mountain Lodges. It was way nicer than our expectations. Loved the two fridges and my family really enjoyed the hot tub. Only a couple minutes from the hill. There were twelve in our family and we could all sit down at the table together. Lots of room. Would definitely stay there again. The owners were very nice and helpful also. We definitely will be back another year.”
