The Great Spring Season Retreat: Pack Your Bags and Take a Hike!

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Spring in Blue Mountain is a great time for hikers or the adventure junkie. As the snow melts and the days get warmer, the countryside begins to come alive. Even if you’re hiking the same trail, the entire landscape looks different from week to week.

Here’s the Scope…

In the early spring, woodland trails may still have traces of snow even if everywhere else is bare. Later, the snow begins to recede and the earliest spring plants begin to poke their heads above ground. And soon after, from a distance, forests will look as if they’ve been dusted with a fine green paint, although closer up they’re still bare.

Suddenly, one day you’ll see trilliums and other spring flowers popping their heads out of the ground. Then before you know it, the forests will be fully covered, with leaves popping out. Even though the trees are fully leaved, the forest can seem to change daily – a heavy rain fall and suddenly the leaves are so green they even smell alive. Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Skiing is a perfect activity because while you can start out the day together, your teens can head off on their own for a few runs then meet up again for a meal. This way, they can have some freedom but you know where they are.

However, to make things more interesting, if you’re both strong skiers you might want to sign up for the “Learn to Race” training programs at Blue Mountain. It will give you both a challenge. And if you’re teen does better than you he or she will feel smug. If you’re the star, then someone will be annoyed but secretly impressed.

You’re going on a holiday to the Blue Mountain Collingwood region and you don’t want to be in a cookie cutter generic hotel which reminds you not only that you’re away from home, but where you are isn’t a home at all. Our properties have the unique home-away-from-home feel, but there are certain things you need to know about vacation rentals before you dive head-first into one for yourself.

The Basics

Hotels are usually located in convenient places because they need to appeal to many people, but you might have a place with a different consideration in mind. An important vacationing rule is to make sure the location you choose is convenient for your specific needs. It’s possible you may want a place that’s a little off the beaten path, and in that case a vacation rental may be more suitable. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a family bonding trip, try any one of our stylish chalets, beautiful resort condos, or townhomes.
